With charming scenery, romantic mountains and forests in a multicolored cultural space, Hoa Binh Lake Tourist Area has become a famous tourist destination, attracting many domestic and foreign tourists. 

Hoa Binh lake was created after the construction of Hoa Binh hydroelectric plant, is the second largest manmade lake in Vietnam with a length of more than 200km, stretching from Hoa Binh to Son La. The lake has a capacity of nearly 9.5 billion m3 of water, spreading in the districts of Cao Phong and Tan Lac, Mai Chau, Da Bac and Hoa Binh City. There are 47 large and small islands, of which 11 are limestone islands with an area of ​​116ha and 36 land mountain islands with an area of ​​157.5 ha.

Currently, many islands have been built into attractive eco-tourism areas such as: Coconut Island, Green Island, Windmill  Hostel, etc. In which, Coconut Island is the destination that is attracting many tourists because of the uniqueness of stilt houses according to traditional Muong architecture and special tourist activities such as fishing, fruit picking, sailing, campfire and enjoying flavorful dishes characteristics of indigenous people and specialty fish of the Da River.

Before arriving in Hoa Binh Lake Tourist Area, tourists can visit Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant, a century project that was started construction in 1979 and completed in 1994, with 8 units with a capacity of 1,920 MW. This is an important industrial project and also an attractive tourist attraction. Here, visitors can enter the tunnel to visit the generators, exhibition house - the place to keep the letter of the previous generation to the next generation, admire the great image of the Dam, offering incense at the statue of Ho Chi Minh, 18m high on Ong Tuong hill and impressive panoramic view of Hoa Binh city from above.

Every year, the Bo Temple Festival opens from January 7 to the end of the third lunar month on Hoa Binh lake. Coming here, visitors can admire and participate in unique, sacred and mystical Mother-worship cultural and religious activities, which is a popular cultural and spiritual tourist destination.

In Hoa Binh Lake tourist area, there are also pristine Karst caves such as Thac Bo cave, Hoa Tien cave, which are ranked national monuments by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. When entering the cave, tourists can enjoy  stalactites of various shapes. Outside the cave entrance, visitors can panoramic view with masterpieces of nature blending the clear blue water with majestic mountain scenery.

In Ngoi Hamlet, Ngoi Hoa Commune, Tan Lac District of  Hoa Binh Lake tourist area, a water park has just opened and put into operation in May 2017, one of the largest inflatable water parks in Vietnam with 34 clusters of floating structure games. Here, visitors can experience water sports such as water motorbikes, inflatable boats, canoes, kayaks, rafts, boat rowing, fishing, etc. that meet the need of all ages.

The most distinctive is the community tourism spots of Muong people in Ngoi village (Ngoi Hoa Commune), Ke village (Hien Luong Commune), Da Bia hamlet and Mo Hem village (Tien Phong Commune) these villages associated with Hoa Binh lake's ecology and natural landscape will bring interesting experience for those who prefer experimental activities such as trekking, visiting villages, exploring pristine caves or  participating daily activities with local people such as raising fish, feeding fish, fishing, etc.

From the potential values ​​of tourism resources, on August 1, 2016, the Prime Minister signed Decision No. 1528/QD-TTg approving the master plan for development of Hoa Binh Lake National Tourist Area, Hoa Binh Province to 2030.

This is an important orientation for Hoa Binh Province to call for investment in exploiting the potential for tourism development, step by step meeting the criteria of becoming a national tourist area, the largest tourist center of Hoa Binh Province. one of 12 key national tourist resorts of the Northern Midlands and Mountains region with a typical tourism product of learning and experiencing Muong culture associated with the lake ecosystem. With unique tourist values ​​and cultural identity of Hoa Binh ethnic groups, giving visitors unforgettable impressions of Hoa Binh Lake Tourist Area - the convergence of country quintessence.
